Dave gets it done.

See the jobs Dave has done →

Doors, decks, gardens, lighting, and the jobs that need working out. South-east Melbourne and Bayside.

  • Public liability insured
  • Qualified mechanic
  • Local to the south-east

What Dave does

If it can be fixed, built or worked out, ask Dave.

Most handymen have a list of trades. Dave has an engineering background, a mechanic’s ticket, and is used to jobs that have to be worked out before anyone can price them.

01

The list around the house

Doors, fittings, leaks, shelves — the jobs that keep getting pushed to next weekend.

  • Door, window and cupboard repairs
  • Carpentry, shelving and flat-pack assembly
  • Painting, patching and plaster repair
  • Locks, grills, shutters and blinds
  • Pre-sale and end-of-lease repairs
Ask Dave about the house →
02

Outside and the garden

Landscaping, structures, and the lighting that makes a yard usable after dark.

Feature and garden lightingDesigned by someone who has lit a festival. Dave does the design and the install, and brings in a licensed electrician for the parts that legally need one — so the electrician’s hours go on the electrician’s work, not the whole job.
  • Garden design, maintenance and landscaping
  • Decks, pergolas, paving and paths
  • Fences, gates and retaining walls

Built, fixed or fabricated

Where the engineering comes in. If nothing off the shelf fits, Dave can usually make one.

  • One-off fabrication in metal and timber
  • Vehicle, trailer and machinery restoration
  • Mechanical repair and rebuilds
  • Parts and brackets that do not exist off the shelf

04

The awkward ones

The job that does not fit a category. Send a photo and Dave will tell you straight.

  • A diagnosis on anything mechanical — Dave is a qualified mechanic
  • Small jobs, quoted properly
  • One-offs that need working out first
  • A second opinion before you spend money replacing something

Who you are calling

Dave spent twenty years lighting stages and rigging shows. He will also put a light over your back steps.

Festivals, tours and event structures around the world, often as crew chief and leading teams, at times as an innovator in the field. Engineer, qualified mechanic. He brings the same thinking to a sticking door as he did to a festival stage: work out what it actually needs, then do it properly.

Dave owns most of the tools, and knows the people with the rest — engineering mates with workshops and warehouses, and trades he has worked alongside for years. If a job needs gear he does not own, or a licensed trade he is not, that is his to sort out, not yours.

A true gentleman.

Dave turned Annabelle’s project into a Balinese fantasy backyard, matching the end result to her AI-generated vision with near-precision. This job was a complete & thorough overhaul, from total site cleanup, through detailed and meticulous foundations prep, through to the most detailed placement. She praised his integrity, intelligence, communication and commitment, and continues recommending him to friends.

Dave is a great service provider who has gone above and beyond in the few tasks I have engaged him to perform.

Matt also describes Dave as a great bloke to chat with. Practical help from someone who is easy to have around.

Professional, communicated well and did a great job.

Dave replaced a set of rotten outdoor steps, fixed a stuck door and connected a rangehood and extractor fan. Felicity says he was a pleasure to have around and they’ll definitely call him for future handyman needs.

Good to know

Areas, quotes and small jobs.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes — ask. Seniors, pension and health care card holders, emergency services and healthcare workers: mention it when you call or text and Dave will factor it into the quote. Dave also works with veterans; if you are on a DVA programme, say so up front.

What areas do you cover?

Melbourne’s south-east and Bayside: Oakleigh, Bentleigh, Hughesdale, Chadstone, Murrumbeena, Moorabbin, Clayton, Mentone and Cheltenham. If you are just outside, ask anyway.

Can I ask about a small job?

Yes. Small jobs are most of the work. If it is the sort of thing that keeps getting pushed to next weekend, that is exactly the job to call about.

How do quotes work?

Send a description and a couple of photos. Dave comes back with what he can do, what it is likely to involve and a price. Quotes are free and there is no obligation.

Do you also help with cars?

Dave is a qualified mechanic. On site he can do maintenance checks, simple fixes and a straight second opinion. Restorations and rebuilds — vehicles, trailers, machinery — he takes on properly, in a workshop. Ask either way.
